REACH is the new European Regulation on chemicals and their safe use.

REACH is an English acronym which stands for “Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemical substances”.

REACH represents one of the main legislative archives and its regulations applies to around 30.000 different existing chemical substances. By substances REACH means both chemical mixtures and articles containing chemical substances. In principal, REACH applies to all chemicals: not only chemicals used in industrial processes but also in our day to day life, for example in cleaning products, paints as well as in articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances.

Main aims of REACH

  • Ensure protection of human health and safeguard the environment.
  • Educate companies to take responsibility for assessing and managing the risks posed by their chemicals.
  • Promote innovation and research of alternative substances.
  • Enhance and broaden the knowledge of risks associated with the use of chemicals.

  • Preserve and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.
